Well, it looks like a few folks would like some more info on my jury duty process.

Not sure if its the same everywhere, by in the 9th district, i was summoned with about 40~50 other people for jury duty monday.

They grouped us into panels of 12 first, then eliminated the disqualified, and the ones seeking to be excused.

after that, weapos;re left in what I call the pool room, which is basically like a classroom on the lower level below the courtrooms.

As the courts are drawn into session, the counselors and the judge upstairs go over the case and the disposition of the parties. All of my cases have been criminal, so basically the defendant makes their plea at that moment, or made it previously with intent to appear before the bench. Then they call for either a bench trial (by judge) or jury trial.

If its a jury trial, well, hey, weapos;re downstairs already waiting for a voir dire. Thus facilitating the 6th ammendment.

They pool 12~15 at a time and haul us up to the courtroom. Then the voir dire, and then a jury is picked. After that, the non-picked go back to the pool room and chill.

Indefinetly. Until the next court/case/judge is ready for another pool to be assembled. We donapos;t get told how many cases there are to process. And we get instructions to show up the next day at varying times.

So far, iapos;ve been pooled 3 times, and not picked any of them. Some folks have already served on a jury case still not cut loose.
